At the other end of the supply chain
WEED study "At the other end of the supply chain" on raw material approaches in the IT sector
The production of PCs, smartphones, printers and other IT products is associated with exploitative working conditions and human rights violations along the entire value chain. This begins with the extraction of the required mineral raw materials, which is often linked to conflicts and serious human rights violations. These include child labor, forced labor, lack of health and safety protection, negative environmental and health impacts on surrounding communities, forced resettlement and the financing of armed groups known as the "conflict minerals" problem.
What are IT manufacturers doing to prevent such abuses "at the other end of the supply chain"? The report examines the approaches of a total of 19 IT manufacturers to responsible sourcing of raw materials.
