Brochure: The cell phone connection

Smartphones, tablets, cell phones and the like are our daily companions. Over 90% of 12 to 19-year-olds own a cell phone, half of them even have their own smartphone. Very few people think about where their technical companion comes from and what happens to it when it has served its purpose. But our consumption is closely linked to exploitative child labor, catastrophic working conditions, low wages and the financing of bloody civil wars. The brochure accompanying the project "The HANDY-connection - a development policy detective tour" by WEED provides suggestions for the classroom, background information on the global supply chain of a cell phone and concrete options for action to influence conditions in the supply chain.
