Conference report No taxes - no development
The conference held on February 18, 2016 by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, Netzwerk Steuergerechtigkeit and WEED discussed ways to ensure fair taxation of multinational companies.
According to a conservative estimate by the OECD, countries lose up to 220 billion euros in tax revenue every year because multinational corporations manage to shift their profits to low or zero-tax jurisdictions. This hits the countries of the Global South, which are dependent on corporate taxes, particularly hard because they are unable to offset these losses by taxing labor.
The conference brought together experts from civil society, government and international institutions to find ways out of this situation.
