The material on the topic of production and disposal of IT using the example of smartphones was developed for secondary level 1

The material on the production and disposal of IT using the example of smartphones was developed for secondary level 1 and is intended to raise pupils' awareness of global economic relationships, raw material extraction and the social and ecological impact of IT production by linking it to an everyday object used by the pupils.

A young woman has been found dead. Who is she? Where did she come from and how did she die? On a development policy detective tour, young people investigate in the area of smartphone production and, like on a scavenger hunt, collect clues that lead them to the solution of the case. In doing so, they examine the working conditions in production and gain an insight into the global supply chain that a smartphone goes through until it finally ends up in our hands. The detective tour focuses on the reality of young people's lives, as smartphones have become an integral part of everyday life. However, very few people think about the working conditions in production, the extraction of raw materials and the quantities of electronic waste. The workshop is currently being revised and may be offered again at a later date.

The brochure provides background information on the topic of smartphones.
