Teaching material: Fair toys & toy production
The material on the topic of fair toys was developed for grades 3, 4 and 5.
The material on the topic of fair toys was developed for grades 3, 4 and 5 and is intended to give pupils an understanding of the global connections between our lifestyle and our economy and to show them alternatives.
Toys and sports balls are suitable examples, as they play a major role in a child's life. Whether model cars, dolls, cuddly toys or building blocks: every second toy sold in Germany comes from China. In the factories where they are manufactured, conditions prevail that violate internationally recognized human rights and labour standards. Alternative purchasing or trading options, such as toys from toy shops or fairly traded toys, are not sufficiently well known.
In addition to learning about global connections through play and answering questions such as "Where do my toys actually come from? Under what conditions was it produced? Are there fair toys and if so, how can I recognize them?", it is therefore particularly important to us to show children how they can take action in their living environment.
The topics of global supply chains, working conditions and corporate responsibility that are addressed are linked to the curricula of elementary school in the subjects of general studies and social sciences, for example.
The material is designed in such a way that you can easily carry out the double lesson yourself. We would also be happy to explain the exact procedure over the phone. with Tina Haupt, Sustainable Production and Procurement Officer at tina.haupt@weed-online.de or 030-27596644.
