Land Rights, Local Resilience and Feminist Opportunities of the World Social Forum

Land, water, and traditional seeds are the lifeline of millions of people— particularly women, who serve as the primary guardians of food sovereignty. Yet, in West Africa, they are increasingly threatened by land grabbing and extractive economic models that marginalize women’s traditional land rights. Strong social and feminist movements are active in many West African countries, opposing these injustices and building alternatives based on solidarity—locally, regionally, and internationally.

We warmly invite you to this event that highlights struggles for land rights and feminist struggles in West Africa and focuses on international solidarity and global movement work. Our guest is Burry Tunkara, an activist from Gambia and a member of the organizing team for the 2026 World Social Forum in Cotonou. Resilience is more than survival and to that note Burry will share accounts of the struggle against land grabbing, the importance of gender justice in these struggles, how local and regional alliances have emerged, and the role that international networking and solidarity play in this process.

Screening & Diskussion: Sacrificed to Feed the World: A testimony from Gabes, Tunesia

Am 7. Mai lädt das Museum des Kapitalismus ab 19 Uhr zu einer Veranstaltung ein, die sich dem Rohstoffextraktivismus widmet mit einem besonderen Schwerpunkt auf dem tunesischen Phosphatsektor und seinen Folgen für die Bevölkerung und die Umwelt in Gabès.

Im Mittelpunkt steht die Premiere des halbstündigen Dokumentarfilms „Sacrificed to feed the world“. Im Anschluss an die Vorführung diskutieren Aktivist*innen und Expert*innen, darunter Julia Albrecht (WEED), über Fragen der Rohstoffgerechtigkeit und laden zum gemeinsamen Austausch ein.

Unter dem Titel „Energiezusammenarbeit vs. Energiedominanz – Partnerschaften für einen gemeinsamen Wandel“ bringt das Forum Akteur*innen aus Zivilgesellschaft, Politik und Wissenschaft zusammen, um aktuelle Herausforderungen und Perspektiven globaler Energie- und Entwicklungspolitik zu diskutieren.

International civil society conference on the need for ambitious outcomes of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) will take place in Sevilla, Spain from June 30 to July 3, 2025. FfD4 is expected to catalyse the urgently needed policy change to mobilize the necessary funds for sustaina-ble development and climate action. Therefore, it is expected to also set mile-stones in terms of reforming the international financial architecture.

From a civil society perspective, fundamental reforms of the international financ-ing system are imperative for reaching sustainable development and ending global poverty and hunger. A successful FfD4 outcome must at least include am-bitious agreements to systematically overhaul the international debt architec-ture, to advance a fair international tax system and to make multilateral financial institutions more inclusive and effective for countries of the Global South.
